Healthy Green Living To Provide Our Families With A Healthy Future
Globally nature is being increasingly impacted by man-made emissions, spillage and effluent, two of the most apparent effects being climate change and acid rain. It appears as if we’re ignoring the damage we’re causing this amazing planet of ours. How wonderful it would be if we could breathe clean air in our cities, uncontaminated by poisons and toxins due to our way of living. Unfortunately pollution caused by us humans has made this not possible; rather you’ll be breathing in toxic fumes that can have adverse effects on your health as well as the environment.
Our immense oceans, which make up most of the earth’s surface, are being poisoned by pollutants, mainly toxins and oil, which have a devastating effect on the life found in the ocean and as a result of that it affects us. For plenty of people who had a living from the sea by harvesting fish they no longer have a job as a consequence of pollution. Fishing has been the source for the dinner table and the well-being of so many communities for so long, that it almost seems unthinkable that today we are seeing its demise. Anyone wanting to be persuaded of how destructive oil spills are, need look no further than the recent Deepwater Horizon tragedy, which cost billions to subsequently fix and left many unemployed. The whole ecosystem was damaged by the large numbers of wildlife that perished, avian as well as marine, causing a backlash along the whole of the food chain. All of this just for oil, a pathetic example of humans putting themselves before other creatures and the planet.
Incredible sums are spent on oil exploration when the money could be spent investing in alternative green energy techniques or research into green energy. The potential for providing large amounts of green energy is huge, without damaging the environment. One would think it’s a no-brainer, given the possibilities offered by green energy alternatives, along with their being passive towards the environment. Take solar panels by way of example, they will work efficiently in sunlit locations and they can produce electricity as well as heat up water. An additional green energy source is wind turbines, which change energy contained in wind to electricity. The positive side of wind turbines is they work 24/7, providing there is sufficient wind. The quest for green energy alternatives is now more and more important as we near the end of our oil reserves, not to mention the harm oil does to the environment. If we did that, global warming and the other ruinous consequences of pollution could perhaps be stopped, and just possibly reversed.
We will benefit in the short term and our children and grandchildren will benefit in the long term. We desire for our children to grow up surrounded by all the magnificence the earth is gifted with, happy and without fear of violent, distressing weather events and food shortages. As individuals we can start doing something right now to make a difference. We can recycle, we could install our own power source like home wind turbines or home wind generators, and would could use CFL light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs. Beginning to live green, and taking good care of the environment, could be the only way we can ensure this.
It will be worth all the money, time and massive effort needed, if we can stop the constant march of the harm we are doing to our planet.
