How Will You Know If Your Home Heating Oil Is Leaking
Most people who use home heating oil to heat their homes will not ever have any problems with their system. There is not much maintenance involved in a heating oil system apart from a regular check to make sure it is running ok. However occasionally some people do encounter problems with their heating oil system. One thing that can happen is that you could get a leak somewhere in the system. An oil leak can cause big problems so it is important that you know what to look for and deal with the situation straight away.
How To Know If You Have An Oil Leak
Do not think that it is a crisis situation if you experience an oil leak in your system. It is very unlikely that it will be gushing out like you might see in a movie when oil is found. Usually the first sign that you have an oil leak will be if you suddenly notice that your oil consumption has increased even though you have not been putting your heating on any more than normal. If you are not using more oil but it is disappearing then you have two possibilities. Either somebody is stealing it or you have a leak.
If you notice oil around the outside of your tank or anywhere else in the system it is reasonable to assume that you may have a leak. Oil is supplied to your boiler by a pipe and a leak could occur anywhere along this route. And if you can’t access your pipe because it is hidden, then you could have a leak for quite a while before you realise.
Oil leaking somewhere is never a good thing and you will need to contact your supplier straight away if this happens. Although oil is quite a safe fuel it can be harmful to the environment. But if the spill is anywhere near to running water it can be much worse. Depending on the amount that has leaked you may have to call in professionals to take care of the cleanup.
Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. Heating oil suppliers can ensure everybody’s tanks remain full. Suppliers can be found all over the country, and, for example, will supply heating oil Brentwood.
