    For homeowners who are considering making the switch to a solar power system, there are a few important things to think about beforehand.  The sheer variety of roof solar panels available today can be overwhelming. Roof solar panels can offer a number of different benefits, and it’s worthwhile to get familiar with some of the different kinds that are available.

    All roof solar panels have a transparent surface which lets sunlight pass through and strike the solar cells inside.  DC electricity is generated by these solar cells when they come in contact with sunlight.  By wiring together the correct number of solar cells, it’s possible to produce any amount of voltage.  The DC electricity is then transferred to an inverter, which is usually located near the home’s electrical panel, where it is then turned into the AC electricity used by appliances in the home.  If there is any excess power, it can be sent back to the power grid.  The power sent is credited by the power company, and the user’s electric meter will actually run backwards.  Roof solar panels don’t generate electricity when the sun isn’t out; there are a couple of options for dealing with this.  One way to have power available in the dark is to have batteries, which are powered by the solar panels while they are generating power.     Choosing the right roof solar panels can make a big difference toward the overall performance of your solar power system.  Some are more efficient than others.  With the same amount of sunlight exposure, two different roof solar panels can produce vastly different amounts of power.  With more efficient solar panels, a system generate the same amount of power with fewer panels, taking up less space and potentially reducing costs.

    Solar panels may also differ in terms of durability.  The durability of the enclosure can be a concern.  The enclosures function to guard the solar cells from the elements.  Enclosures that aren’t well made will frequently allow moisture and objects through.  If cells are damaged frequently, the cost of replacing them can quickly snowball.  The reliability of the solar cells themselves is also something to consider.
